Avocados, cashews, olive oil… you undoubtedly have a handful of foods in your pantry that contain healthy, or monounsaturated, fats. And guess what? You NEED these fats in your diet. But, you work so hard at burning fat, why would you ever want to put it back in your body? Simple. Your body needs it to work at it’s highest functioning level. So, why does healthy fat fight the unwanted fat?
1. It helps you feel fuller longer: Fat digests slowly leaving you feeling satisfied quicker and for a longer period of time.
2. It increases adiponectin levels: This fat-fighting hormone is released when you eat healthy fats destroying unwanted fat cells in your body.
3. It allows for less carb consumption: Eating a diet higher in fat decreases your desire for carbs, especially when you’re snacking.
Now, don’t get crazy. It’s easy to go overboard when it comes to fat consumption. If you are to measure one thing in your diet, measure fats. That way, you are less likely to consume more calories than you need since fats provide a big caloric punch. That being said, do yourself and your body a favor and fight away the fat with fat!
