Hello folks! Perhaps I am a little late to the party in posting my recipe round-up given that Thanksgiving is only TWO days away.. (crazy, right!?). Perhaps I should properly introduce myself to those of you who have not met me this past week at the club. My name is Elyse, and I am the new evening front desk employee. I’m happy to be able to share my passion for healthy living and fitness with you all!
BUT FIRST…..let me take a selfie.
I want to share a little story with you. Last year was the first Thanksgiving where I actually had a clue about calories and what was good and bad for me in my diet. I was also, at the time, still trying to lose about 10 more lbs, and I didn’t want to let the holidays set me back! Little did I know, there was a whole WORLD of healthy alternative recipes for some of my favorite dishes.
Growing up, all I ate on Thanksgiving was mashed potatoes and corn. And cranberry sauce. And like, a BITE of turkey. As I got older, I ventured into the more exciting stuff like green bean casserole, candied yams, and stove top stuffing. (Love at first bite, am I right?) Unfortunately, the way those dishes are usually made involve being drenched in high-sodium, high-fat soup, embedded in a blanket of marshmallows, or loaded with ‘white’ carbs and more sodium. Um, sounds appetizing….maybe?
Don’t get me wrong folks – it is PERFECTLY okay to treat yourself. I, myself, prefer to be blissfully ignorant around the holidays. If you are well on your way in a weight-loss journey, it is perfectly understandable to feel that one treat might derail your progress. Fear not, dear friends – for I am here to offer some (SERIOUSLY) amazing alternatives that I personally spent four hours (yes, four) cooking last year to have a satisfying Thanksgiving!
Most of these recipes I have tried myself, some I haven’t tried yet but will be trying this year, and some I created myself!
Green Bean Casserole #2 (Vegan, Gluten free) <– This is the one I made last year
Homemade Cranberry Sauce <– Also made this one last year, HUGE hit!!
White Chocolate Raspberry Mini Muffins <– Written by yours truly!
Grain-free Pumpkin Bread <– From a local PA blogger!
I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving with your families! If you’re in the club in the evenings and haven’t met me yet, Stop by and say hi!! 🙂
Liven Up Y’all!
